HISTORY OF CAPITAL RESIDENCE

Originally built in 1850 during the reign of Queen Victoria it is rumoured that this Grade B Listed Townhouse was built for the daughter of James Balfour - The Earl of Pilrig - as her private residence.

The Pilrig area of Edinburgh also has strong links with Robert Louis Stevenson the acclaimed Scottish author whose works include Treasure Island. His mother Margaret was part of the Balfour Family and as a boy he often stayed in the area and mentions Pilrig in his books Kidnapped and Catriona.
